Oakendale Farm’s Riding Program

At Oakendale Farm we offer riding lessons in Dressage, Eventing, Hunter Seat Equation and Jumping for riders of all levels.
We work hard to provide our students with a safe and friendly environment. Our students range from pleasure riders to
riders working towards being the top of their division at recognized competitions. Students may take lessons on their own
horses or one of our well trained school horses.

Lesson Details
At Oakendale Farm we believe that excellent Horsemanship leads to excellent equestrians. Riding is a partnership between
the rider and horse. Our beginner lessons start with 2 private ½ hour introductory lessons. These 2 lessons allow the rider to
learn the proper horse handling, grooming, tacking, mounting and dismounting before moving forward. We have found that
this system allows the rider to learn safety while gaining confidence. After completion of the introductory lessons riders then
move onto a lesson program that fits their individual needs. After mastering the basic skills students will learn more
advanced movements and jumping.

Lesson Commitment and Scheduling
Lessons are offered all year round and are taken on a weekly basis. Lessons can be scheduled as a ½ hr private, 1 hr private
or group lesson. Our lessons are sold in packages of 5 lessons. These 5 lessons are to be taken with in 6 weeks.

Lesson Package Prices for lessons on school horses are
½ hour Private - $2
25
1 hour private - $
300
1 hour group - $175
The type of lesson that best suits the student will be determined by the instructor.
As students progress lessons it maybe necessary to change the student’s lesson schedule to help them move forward.

Lessons can be canceled by the farm due to bad weather, scheduling conflict or a holiday. If a student needs to cancel a
lesson they must notify the farm 24 hrs in advance. All lessons canceled by the student with out 24 hrs notice will count as a
lesson from their package. All lessons canceled on time can be rescheduled at a time that works best with the farms
schedule. If your lesson is canceled it is the student’s responsibility to contact the farm to reschedule their lesson so that it is
taken with in the 6 wks of their lesson package purchase. A months notice is needed for students that decide they need to
take a break from lessons. This allows students on the waiting list to take advantage of our lessons. Students that don’t give
proper notice will be expected to purchase another lesson package.

Preschool Riding Program
Our Preschool Riding Program offers children ages 3-5 years old a proper introduction to basic horse care and riding.
Students will enjoy a ½ hour mounted lesson along with a ½ hour of learning how to groom, colors, breeds and much more.
Instructors will work on basic riding position and control, while playing games with students.
Lesson packages for our Preschool Riding Program are $150 for 5 lessons.
Lessons will run weekly and follow the same rules as our regular Riding Program.

Riding Attire
All students must come prepared for their lesson wearing appropriate riding attire. Mandatory attire consists of a long pair of
comfortable pants, a neatly fitting top (tucked in if necessary), a flat soled boot with a ½ inch heel that covers the ankle and
an astm/sei approved riding helmet (provided by ODF if needed). Some inappropriate attire is shorts, capris, spaghetti strap
tops, sneakers, baggy fitting clothes, cloths with inappropriate writing or pictures and jewelry that can be caught. At no time
should riders under garments be showing. All shirts must come ½ ways up their chest. Riders must come dressed for the
weather. Extra layers are necessary in the cold weather and rain. Riders that come to lessons with inappropriate attire will
not be allowed to participate in their lesson and that lesson will be deducted from their lesson package.

Sportsmanship
Each rider at ODF is required to act in an appropriate manner. We treat each other and our horses with respect.
We learn from others and do our best to teach other riders when in need.

Oakendale Farm limits the number of students that can be enrolled at one time. This allows us to offer our students the
attention that they need to advance to their full potential. If our riding program is full, potential students can be put on a
waiting list and they will be contacted once space becomes available.

Oakendale Farm is an official United States Pony Club Riding Center. All students are encouraged to become members of
the center. Pony Clubber's learn basic through advanced horsemanship along with perfecting their riding skills. Pony Club is
like girl/boy scouts for horses. The USPC is the one of the leading educational organizations for junior equestrians in the
world. More info on the USPC can be found at www.ponyclub.org
